CW: Abuse and bodily harm
Skills:
Combat - Lan Bo is acknowledged as being so fantastic at combat, that he is being bred to create even more potent war mermen for the future. He has great skills with weapons, primarily guns, as well as tactical advantages, being able to lure opponents to him in a false sense of security only to destroy them. He is merciless when it comes to harming others.
Selective Learning - Lan Bo struggles with the human language. Because of his imprisonment, his understanding can be limited, and his speech in return even more limited. Occasionally, he can speak, but it is very broken with some problems in pronunciation. So he relies on actions, reactions, and emotion to get his point acrost.
Morse Code - has learned morse code; his understanding in morse code is a little better than his verbal understanding, though still limited and simplistic.
Lethal Chef - Everything he cooks gets burnt to a crisp.
Cars - Lan Bo knows how to drive a car.
Canon Abilities:
Tears - Lan Bo's tears turn into pearls
Appetite - Lan Bo eats many things, even those that shouldn't be considered edible, and is able to eat them easily, including things like trash and metal. This doesn't seem to negatively affect him later.
Regeneration - At some point, a fair portion of Lan Bo's tail was cut off, and not only did it grow back, but it grew significantly longer. The tail can regenerate an unlimited number of times, but the intense pain can never be forgotten.
Curl Up - Lan Bo has the ability to curl into a ball, completely covering himself with his tail, when he feels hurt or threatened. This ball seems to be impenetrable to all forces. Mermen are compared to Rupert's Tears in that the rest of them are indestructible, but the end of their tail can really harm them. This ball incubates a self-healing period, but it seems not all injuries can heal.
Lightning - Lan Bo has control over electricity and can zap his victims until they are burnt to a crisp. He can also power electronics or even create storms. He can also use this to levitate or climb up surfaces that are smooth. He can also use this electricity to not harm others but grab them instead.
Pheromone Release - Releases pheromones to attract others, especially Alphas.
Pheromone Suppression - Can suppress the pheromones of other Omegas, which is actually painful and can even cause physical harm to them.
Low Body Temperature - He is cold to the touch, and similarly can't tolerate heat very well, feeling someone with a warm body temperature will make him uncomfortable, if not outright hurt him.
Sting Tail - He has a very strong tail that can easily slice things open and draw blood, and is usually his immediate defense if he's caught by surprise. He is also quite capable on land and can even climb trees like a snake with it. His tail also turns red when he's genuinely angry.
Swimming - Of course, being a merman, Lan Bo is an excellently efficient swimmer.
Role: Myth
Role Qualities/Attributes: What will they manifest as this role?
Role Reasoning: Lan Bo is considered cold, calculating, and ruthless - a perfect war machine. It is even brought up if it is possible that he was born without emotions and thus without the concept of betrayal. Arguably, everything he has done so far has been out of pure selfishness and preservation, with almost no concern for others. He doesn't seem to understand the limits of what could be wrong with his actions and even lashes out unabashedly. And even when he's aware of just how much his actions hurt others, even taking their lives without any restraint, he's satisfied with it. There's no kill like overkill; he burns his enemies to a crisp when he uses his lightning, recreates death for an Alpha time and time again, and even painfully shoots his own partner to prove a point. Thus Myth seems to align perfectly with the way he handles his problems.
Whether or not he aligns himself with the Myths is not really any of his concern, but this will be how he treats general confrontation, especially those related to violence.
Please choose one of the follow options for your personality section. Please clarify which option you have picked and, if option 2, which questions you are answering:
OPTION 2 QUESTIONS (PICK 4-5) 100-300 WORD LIMIT EACH:
What was the most traumatic experience your character endured? How did this change them?
Growing up in a lab is the most traumatic experience for him, as they ran countless experiments on him to make him a perfect war machine, test his limits, and even force him to birth more like him. Having his tail chopped off is one of the trademarks of this, as they wanted to see if it grew back; they tossed him to abusive mates to try and find a suitable match in genetics, and even broke bones to see how fast he healed. He dealt with years and years of abuse, and if anything it has made him more vengeful. He has no hesitation in getting even, and even going overboard with his punishments, with someone that has genuinely harmed him, and lashing out when he feels threatened. He is defensive and easily resents others.
What is the most important and defining relationship(s) in your character's life and why?
His most important and defining relationship is the one he shares with Bai. Bai was one of the first Alphas he was ever paired with in the laboratory when he was younger and genuinely enjoyed his presence. Bai showed Lan Bo tenderness and even showed care and concern for his discomforts, such as how Bai's body temperature was practically scalding to Lan Bo. He'd sweep away Lan Bo's pearlised tears and they shared moments like best friends. However, due to the traumas that Lan Bo was experiencing, Lan Bo lashed out and left a scar on Bai.
Despite all of this, Lan Bo's first call for the one to help him escape was in morse code, spelling out Bai's name. Bai was the one he thought of the most and desired to save Lan Bo from his imprisonment. And as they escaped to Bai's house, Lan Bo longed for Bai's touch, nuzzling his hands and whimpering when Bai left him alone in a room. Bai's initial callousness towards Lan Bo did not go unnoticed, and Bai's interactions with others made him insanely jealous. When he got the chance to speak fluently with Bai in the VR modulation, he expressed that Bai's attitude really hurt him. And, when Bai was imprisoned shortly thereafter, Lan Bo took up a job to make sure that Bai would be taken care of when he came back.
To Lan Bo, Bai is his choice in mate, even if he still is a little hesitant at some places. It's clear he cares for Bai, as he's the only one he shows any concern for at all. He even pulls out some of his own scales and cries to gift both his pearl tears and the scales to Bai.
What is your character's moral code? Do they have one? Why or why not?
Lan Bo is not known to have a moral code. He is selfish and has no hesitations in taking what he wants when he wants it. He does not question why he kills others, and will quickly show traits of jealousy if he feels the slightest bit like someone is moving in on what he believes to be his. He has harmed those that spring this jealousy, with whatever it means in the moment, though this is usually the release of strong pheromones that will make other Omegas, and even some Betas, sick. He even pouts if those he wants attention from aren't giving it to him in the way that he wants. And even above that, he has bitten others he doesn't know just because he's hungry. He even went so far as to shoot Bai in a VR setting to show Bai the pain that he feels with Bai's attitude towards him. A means to an end he desires certainly seems to be the only thing he cares about. And whatever it takes to get there, no matter who he has to step on, is of very little concern to him.
Is your character capable of forgiveness or will they hold a grudge until they die? Would anything ever make them change their mind?
Lan Bo's forgiveness really seems to depend on his attachment. When it comes to others that aren't someone he gives any cares about, he doesn't really care too much one way or the other. They're safety is not his concern. If he's told to kill someone he doesn't know, he absolutely will, and any perceived threats will be treated similarly. He has had abusers in the past, and he has no hesitations about killing them off. In one special case, he made it so an Alpha he was paired with before would be revived repeatedly in VR Modules so that the Alpha could be killed endlessly by test takers. In the cases of extreme hatred, it seems there is no redemption. Or one would have to be able to withstand his attacks and be willing to put up with his constant attempts and coldness in order to prove that they feel bad for hurting him in any way form in order for any forgiveness to be permittable.
However, with those he cares about, especially Bai, he seems to be more forgiving, and just a little less likely to cause harm, if only slightly. Though he did shoot Bai to kill in the VR module, he did it knowing that Bai would be okay, and used it to teach Bai a lesson. But in the real world, Lan Bo doesn't tend to do more than just slap Bai if he doesn't like something that he's doing. He shows clear restraint for someone who was supposedly "born without emotions". But it's only because Bai is the one he likes best. And it can be perceived that if he forms other close relationships, he would treat others with at least some favouritism if he felt they wronged him.
What is your character's safespace? When do they feel the most settled and comfortable? When do they feel confident and relaxed?
Lan Bo's safe space is to curl himself into his tail, hiding its tip within, to create a nigh-impenetrable ball of himself. He does this when he is offended, recovering, or feeling shy, and he absolutely will not come out of it until he is good and ready. This may have been a defense response when he suffered the traumas in the laboratory.
However, if he were to pick a place that helped him feel settled and comfortable, he would likely choose Bai's home, as he chooses to reside there even when Bai is imprisoned. Despite all of his greed, he does truly wish to be near Bai, and even efforts to take care of him, more monetarily than anything else as Lan Bo seems to be incapable of cooking without burning everything to a crisp.
As for where he feels more confident and relaxed, in the midst of battle seems to be where he is most natural. He handles things easily, fearlessly, and can even feign letting his guard down so well, that it lures others in so that he can take them out with ease. He has no doubts about his calculated risks and may even enjoy them.
★ Character Information ★
Character Name: Lan Bo
Character Age: Unknown; looks to be about early twenties.
Character Species: Merman, Electric Light Devilfish Ray species
Current Health: Mostly stable, with an nsfw injury in the pelvis that's refusing to heal. He keeps this injury covered with his forefins, though, so it's not easily noticeable.
Outfit: Bandages wrapped around his upper torso to help him keep from drying out.
Character Canon: The Falling Merman
Link to History: The world is set in the Omegaverse, meaning that men who are Omegas can become impregnated by men, especially those who are Alphas, and matchmaking for these sorts of things is not uncommon. Since Lan Bo's youth, he's been imprisoned in a laboratory that has been highly interested in his skills and abilities. In the hopes of breeding even stronger mermen for war, the laboratory introduced him to several Alphas to encourage breeding. Lan Bo only seemed to get along with one: a white lion named Bai Chu-nian. But after Lan Bo lashed out at him, they were separated.
The laboratory continued experiments on him, including chopping off a large portion of his tail to observe its ability to regenerate. Lan Bo was effectively tortured through experiment after experiment, even being hooked up with an abusive Alpha. At the start of the story, Lan Bo is trying to reach out to Bai Chu-nian, tapping morse code into the glass that spells out the lion's name. Omega Union Headquarters picks up on this and sends Bai to rescue him.
However, Bai is afraid to bring Lan Bo to headquarters, worried that they will imprison him for being "excessively dangerous", and takes Lan Bo home with him. He plans to wait 48 hours to prove that Lan Bo doesn't lose control easily and thus doesn't endanger others. From there, Bai goes on a VR mission in order to help his uncle's son with a combat trial. He takes Lan Bo along with him, learning more about his past in the laboratory along the way. Lan Bo proves his skills and judgment and, when given a boosting agent that unlocks his potential, he is able to speak openly about how Bai's attitude hurts him as badly as a gunshot before they leave the VR module. Since the booster was only VR applicable, the effects don't follow him outside of the module. Omega Union Headquarters arrests Bai for his disregard of orders, but allow Lan Bo to join their ranks as an officer and keep Bai's home while he waits for him to return. Lan Bo becomes the breadwinner for the household.
Canon Point: The end of chapter 11, where Bai teases Lan Bo by saying all the Omegas are his "babies"

Canon Update!
Date: 2022-07-10 11:31 pm (UTC)Update Details: Partially through chapter 23. Lan Bo helps Bai ultimately complete the mission. Due to a temporary booster, Lan Bo is able to communicate the pains Bai has been making him feel. At the end of the module, Bai makes sure that Lan Bo gets medical attention. Bai gets sent to prison for breaking protocol by not bringing Lan Bo to headquarters. However, Lan Bo is permitted to stay behind and even joins the Omega Union Headquarters while Bai is in prison. This allows Lan Bo to become the one who earns the money for the relationship. Lan Bo is still waiting for Bai's return.
Mental or Physical Changes: The injury in Lan Bo's pelvis has been treated and fully healed.
Lan Bo is able to communicate more smoothly vocally. He still speaks simply, but is able to hold a conversation and mostly understand others. He is also more able to use technology.
